  5. The radial edge lift (REL)
  6. is same concept as the AEL 
  7. but the measurement is 
  8. made along the radius of 
  9. the base curve rather than 
  10. parallel to the axis of the 
  11. lens.

  13. REL is more difficult to 
  14. calculate and to visualize 
  15. than AEL, therefore AEL is 
  16. more commonly used.  The 
  17. REL does give the shortest
  18. distance from the cornea to 
  19. the lens edge.
